[Flash 9 is required to listen to audio.]

On this day in 1970 was the Kent State massacre. In 2012 we have many college students in protest mode with the ever changing landscape in the USA.

“Ohio” is a protest song written and composed by the great Neil Young. The song is an anthem and one of the poignant tunes written in reaction to such a horrific event. During my college years I hosted a radio show “Bright Lights” focused on bringing up and coming local independent bands and music artists at Emerson College on the WECB-64AM. Before graduating I welcomed locals artists Ron Scarlett and Glen Doherty from the Boston music scene for an interview and to play acoustic. To my surprise and the listeners they played a fantastic version of “Ohio”. Deepest thanks and appreciation to Greg Weremey who digitized the show. This is rare audio and a vintage moment recorded April 11, 1986. Move the audio cursor to the 11:15 mark to hear…..

Stay Tuned!

Booked hotel rooftop for National Poetry Month event April 19TH.

Brought out the old Canon Powershot A590 for a walk around the hood yesterday in black, white, and color mode.

Poetry holds the knowledge that we are alive and that we know we’re going to die. The most mysterious aspect of being alive might be that — and poetry knows that.

In honor of National Poetry Month, we’re replaying our interview with poet Marie Howe tomorrow. (via nprfreshair)

Understand, I love you, even as I turn form you like this
to run breathless down a dim and disappearing street

WALT WHITMAN made with Lite Brite
Welcome to National Poetry Month introduced in 1996 by The Academy of American Poets. Here is one of my favorites:
I Dream’d in a Dream By Walt Whitman 1819-1892 I dream’d in a dream I saw a city invincible to the attacks of the whole of the rest of the earth, I dream’d that was the new city of Friends, Nothing was greater there than the quality of robust love, it led the rest, It was seen every hour in the actions of the men of that city, And in all their looks and words.

Until you can create something that captivates people, I’d invite you to just shut up. It’s easy to attack and destroy an act of creation. It’s a lot more difficult to perform one.
